The short version
Some links on Car Confessions earn me a small commission if you click them and make a purchase or complete a quote. It costs you nothing extra. I only link to things I’d genuinely point a mate towards.
The proper version (because the law requires it)
Car Confessions is run by Frank Butcher — a pen name, but the opinions are real. I spent years in the motor trade, and this site exists to share what I actually know, not to flog you things you don’t need.
That said, the site does earn money through affiliate partnerships. Here’s how it works:
What is affiliate marketing?
When I recommend a product or service and include a link to it, that link sometimes contains a tracking code. If you click through and complete a purchase, quote, or application, I may receive a commission from the company — at no additional cost to you. You pay exactly the same price you’d pay going direct.
Who do I work with?
Affiliate partners are listed on this page as and when partnerships are confirmed. These will typically be vehicle history check providers, insurance comparison services, and car finance products — the kind of things I’d recommend regardless. I’ll keep this page updated.
Does this affect what I write?
No. The whole point of Car Confessions is that I tell you what dealers don’t want you to know. That doesn’t change because I earn a few quid on an HPI check link. If anything, I’m more careful — the moment I start pushing things I wouldn’t personally use, the site loses the only thing that makes it worth reading: honesty.
I don’t write positive reviews in exchange for commission. I don’t accept payment for editorial coverage. I don’t recommend products I think are rubbish.
Display advertising
The site may also show display adverts (via Google AdSense or similar networks). I don’t control which ads appear and I’m not responsible for their content. If you see an ad for something obviously dodgy, feel free to tell me.
Regulatory stuff
This site complies with the UK Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 and the ASA/CAP guidelines on affiliate disclosure. Where content is commercially influenced, it is labelled clearly.
Questions?
If you’re unsure whether a link is an affiliate link, or you want to know more about how the site works, drop a comment on any article or get in touch via the contact page. I’m not hard to find.
